Technology and Tribal Sovereignty

In the Benton Foundation report, tribes, as sovereign entities, are determined to have the right to ". . . exercise civil regulatory authority over lands under jurisdiction and activities taking place thereon." This responsibility extends to issues relating to telecommunications and technology regulations, legal mechanisms, and policy. Tribes should be afforded an equal amount of recognition and assistance in this area as in any other area where is exercises authority. In order to fully realize the exercise their sovereign rights, greater training, information, and expertise needs to be made available.
