Issues in Tribal Telecommunications and Information Technology
More than 50 people attended
"Connecting for the Future: Issues in Tribal Telecommunications
and Information Technology," a breakout session held during
NCAI's 59th Annual Session in San Diego, Calfornia. This four-hour
interactive forum, which was spread over two days, provided the
opportunity to learn directly from tribes and their project partners
about successful community-based efforts to deploy basic and advanced
telecommunications and information technology within their communities.
The first session, held Tuesday, November 12, was
moderated by Joseph
Brown Thunder, principal and founder of Nativeres.
Topics covered included Community-Based Telecommunications
and Information Technology Planning and Improving
Phone Subscribership.
The second session, held Wednesday, November 13,
was moderated by Geoffrey
Blackwell, Attorney Advisor and Liaison to Tribal Governments
for the Federal Communications
Commission in the Consumer & Governmental Affairs Bureau.
Topics covered included Creating Tribal Telco's
and Building Successful Partnerships.
In addition to facilitating the panels, Mr. Blackwell
provided attendees with materials outlining the FCC's Indian Country
activities and was available during both breakout sessions to answer
participant questions. You can download the FCC brochures here:
